Six people have been arrested in a series of counter-terrorism operations across Brussels, prosecutors say, just days after two deadly attacks in the Belgian capital.

Several house searches were carried out in the city of Brussels as well as the suburbs of Schaarbeek and Jette late on Thursday night. It was not immediately known what led to the house searches or why the six had been taken into custody.

“Six people were arrested tonight in connection with the federal investigation concerning the attacks on Brussels Airport and the metro in Brussels. It will be decided tomorrow whether their detention will be continued,” the federal prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

Belgian broadcaster VRT reported that three people had been arrested in front of the building of the federal prosecutor’s office in Brussels, a fourth was arrested during a house search elsewhere in the city, and two more were arrested during a house search in the suburb of Jette.

It is unclear what links, if any, those arrested have to this week’s deadly attacks in Brussels.
