A Frenchman has been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to carry out a terrorist attack in France, the country’s interior minister says. A police operation is now underway near Paris.

Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, speaking at a press conference late on Thursday, said the suspect was arrested in the Paris area earlier in the day after intelligence was received about a terror plot that was allegedly in an advanced stage.

Specific details about the plot were not immediately released, but Cazeneuve said there was no immediate indication to suggest that the man was linked to those responsible for the recent attacks in Brussels and Paris.

Cazeneuve’s statement came as police were carrying out a search late on Thursday in the Paris suburb of Argenteuil. The search is linked to the arrest but it was not immediately known whether any weapons or explosives had been found. Several buildings have been evacuated as a precaution.
