Singer Demi Lovato has been rushed to hospital after she was found unconscious at her home in Los Angeles, apparently suffering from a heroin overdose. She is reported to be “okay and stable.”
The incident happened just before 12 p.m. PT on Tuesday when emergency services were called to Lovato’s home in the Hollywood Hills. Scanner traffic indicated that the singer was unconscious when she was found.
Law enforcement sources told entertainment news website TMZ that Lovato was given Narcan, which first responders use to block the effects of opioids. She was then rushed to an area hospital.
Representatives for the singer did not immediately respond to requests for comment. A source told PEOPLE magazine just after 2 p.m. that Lovato was “okay and stable,” but other details were not yet available.
Lovato, who is 25 years old, has a lengthy history of substance abuse. In a song released last month, the singer revealed that she had suffered a relapse.
Other celebrities wrote supportive messages as news broke that Lovato had been rushed to hospital. “I love u [Demi Lovato],” singer Ariana Grande said in a tweet.
Singer Brad Paisley wrote: “My friend [Demi Lovato] is one of the kindest, most talented people I’ve ever met. Praying for her right now, addiction is a terrifying disease. There is no one more honest or brave than this woman.”
