Police and other emergency services in California are responding to an active shooter at the YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, officials and witnesses say. Multiple people have been injured.
The incident began at about 12:55 p.m. PT on Tuesday when police were called to reports of shots being fired at the YouTube headquarters. It is believed to have started at a cafe for YouTube employees.
“Active shooter at YouTube HQ. Heard shots and saw people running while at my desk. Now barricaded inside a room with coworkers,” YouTube employee Vadim Lavrusik said on Twitter.
Police confirm that they are responding to an active shooter, but other details have not yet been released. A spokesperson for San Francisco General Hospital confirmed that they had received multiple victims.
“Please stay out of the area,” San Bruno police said.
Todd Sherman, another employee at YouTube, said he was in a meeting when he and his colleagues felt the floor rumble because people started to run. “First thought was earthquake,” he said.
Google, which owns YouTube, said in a statement: “We are coordinating with authorities and will provide official information here from Google and YouTube as it becomes available.”
