At least 15 people have been killed and dozens more have been injured after two suicide bombers blew themselves up at a Shi’ite mosque in Baghdad, Iraqi officials say.
The attack on Thursday happened inside a mosque in the Shula district of the Iraqi capital. One bomber detonated an explosives vest inside the mosque while a second attacker blew himself up as emergency services rushed to the scene to help the victims.
Police and medical sources told the Reuters news agency that at 15 people had been killed and that about 50 others were injured. Among those killed are at least four members of the security forces, according to Reuters. It is believed that the death toll could rise further.
The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for Thursday’s deadly attack.
