A suicide bomber has targeted a Shi’ite mosque in the Afghan capital of Kabul, killing at least 10 worshippers and injuring others, local officials and witnesses say. Some reports say the death toll could be as high as 30.
The attack happened just after 6 p.m. local time on Friday when an explosion occurred at the Imam Zaman Mosque in Kabul. It was followed by gunfire. A large number of people were at the mosque for Friday prayers.
The Afghan Health Ministry confirmed that at least 10 people had been killed, but the exact figure was not immediately known. Both the Associated Press and Reuters news agency reported that as many as 30 people had been killed.
