Active shooter at apartment complex in Panama City, Florida

Police and other emergency services in Florida are responding to an active shooter at an apartment complex in Panama City, where heavy bursts of gunfire have been heard. At least one person was killed at an earlier scene.

The incident began at about 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday when officers were called to a shooting on White Heron Drive in Santa Rosa Beach, a community about 29 miles (46 kilometers) northwest of Panama City.

Some time later, officers were called to reports of shots being fired at an apartment complex in Panama City, where witnesses reported hearing hundreds of gunshots being fired. The incident was ongoing as of 3:15 p.m. ET.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office said 1 person was killed in Santa Rosa Beach, calling it a “domestic incident.” Multiple people were injured in Panama City, but the number of victims was not immediately known.
