Six people have been found dead after an apparent murder-suicide at two locations in the city of Chesapeake in Virginia, police say. All of the victims are said to be related.
The incident began at about 3:35 p.m. ET on Wednesday when Chesapeake Police were called to the 2300 block of Wildwood Road to check on the welfare of an individual. Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased body.
A subsequent investigation led police to a nearby residence at the intersection of North George Washington Highway and Wintergreen Drive, where officers negotiated with an armed subject for several hours.
“When officers made entry into the residence, five additional deceased bodies were located to include the suspect,” Chesapeake Police said in a press statement. “All six of the deceased were related. It is believed the suspect killed family members prior to arrival.”
Other details, such as a possible motive or the identities of either the suspect or the victims, were not immediately released. “The investigation is currently ongoing,” the statement said.
