3 police officers shot in Georgia state, suspect dead

Three police officers in Georgia state have been injured in a shooting outside a home southeast of Atlanta, local officials say. The suspect was killed but only few details were immediately available.

The incident happened just before 12 p.m. ET on Friday when a shooting was reported in the 1200 block of St. Francis Court in Locust Grove, a small city in Henry County, about 32 miles (52 kilometers) southeast of Atlanta.

The Henry County Police Department confirmed that three police officers had been shot, including two Henry County deputies and one officer from the Locust Grove Police Department. There was no immediate word on their conditions, but two of them were airlifted to area hospitals.

A suspect, whose identity was not immediately known, was killed. It was not immediately known what led to the shooting. A nearby elementary school was placed on lockdown as a precaution, but it was later lifted.
