White House Communications Director Hope Hicks, who is one of President Donald Trump’s longest-serving and closest aides, announced on Wednesday that she plans to resign in the next few weeks.
Trump, in a statement, confirmed Hicks would be leaving the White House soon to pursue other opportunities. Aides told the New York Times that Hicks had been considering leaving for months and felt she had accomplished what she could in her current position.
“Hope is outstanding and has done great work for the last three years,” Trump said. “She is as smart and thoughtful as they come, a truly great person. I will miss having her by my side but when she approached me about pursuing other opportunities, I totally understood.”
The president added: “I am sure we will work together again in the future.”
