A father whose three daughters were sexually abused by Larry Nassar has tried to attack the former Olympic gym doctor in court, but police officers were able to intervene and the father was taken into custody.
The incident happened on Friday morning after sisters Lauren and Madison Margraves tearfully read their victim statements at a court in Eaton County, Michigan. Their father, Randall Margraves, then asked for permission to address the court.
“You son of a bitch,” Randall Margraves said as he looked at Nassar, who was seated at a table in another part of the courtroom. Judge Janice Cunningham jumped in, telling Margraves that profanity was not appropriate in a courtroom.
“I would ask you, as part of the sentencing, to grant me five minutes in a locked room with this demon. Can you do that?”, Margraves asked. “You know that I can’t do that. That’s not how our legal system works,” Judge Cunningham said, after which Margraves began rushing towards Nassar.
Footage from the courtroom showed people standing up to shield Nassar while officers rushed in, pushing Margraves away from the table and forcing him to the floor. “I want that son of a bitch. Give me one minute with that bastard,” Margraves said as he was taken into custody.
Nassar was not hurt and was taken from the courtroom. Margraves will not be charged.
Nassar was previously sentenced to 175 years in prison after pleading guilty to molesting young athletes under the guise of medical treatment. He was also sentenced to 60 years in federal prison for child pornography.
