A van has plowed into a group of people in the German city of Münster, causing deaths and injuries, local officials say. It is believed to have been an intentional act.
The incident happened on late Saturday afternoon when the vehicle plowed into people in the city’s downtown area. Photos from the scene showed that the van crashed into an outdoor area of a cafe.
Münster is a city in western Germany, about 52 kilometers (32 miles) from the border with the Netherlands.
Police confirmed that people were killed and injured, but specific figures were not immediately available. The driver, whose identity is unknown, is among the dead after an apparent suicide.
The incident, which happened on the first warm day of the year, is being treated as an intentional act, police sources said. Officials have urged citizens to avoid the downtown area.
