A passenger train has collided with a freight train in the town of Meerbusch in western Germany, causing a number of casualties, local officials say. Rescue workers are at the scene.
The incident happened at about 8 p.m. local time on Tuesday when the passenger train collided with a freight train in Meerbusch, a town just outside Düsseldorf, about 37 kilometers (23 miles) from the border with the Netherlands.
The Meerbusch Fire Department said a large number of emergency services were responding to the scene, including firefighters from neighboring towns. German media reported that at least 50 people were believed to have been injured, though authorities could not yet confirm that.
