A small Cessna plane carrying four people has crashed in a mountainous area near the popular Black Sea resort of Koktebel in southeast Crimea, Russian officials say.

Wednesday’s incident was first reported at 5:45 p.m. local time when a local resident witnessed an aircraft going down close to a mountain near Koktebel. The wreckage of the aircraft was located at about 7:30 p.m., and rescue workers confirmed that all four people on board had been killed.

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea described the victims as three men and one woman, although their identities were not immediately released. The TASS news agency reported that a priest was among the victims.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

The Black Sea resort of Koktebel is on the Crimean Peninsula, which was annexed by Russia last year.
