Legendary singer Meat Loaf has collapsed during a show at the Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton, witnesses say, but there is no immediate word on his condition.
The incident happened just after 9:30 p.m. local time on Thursday when Meat Loaf, whose real name is Michael Lee Aday, suddenly collapsed while singing. The music stopped seconds later and people on the stage rushed to his aid.
Fans were told to leave the venue as multiple ambulances, police and fire crews responded to the scene. One witness said the singer appeared to be conscious shortly before he was taken into the ambulance, which transported him to a nearby hospital without the use of emergency lights and sirens.
Alberta Health Services provided no information about Meat Loaf’s condition, and there was no word from his representatives.
Earlier this week, Meat Loaf was forced to cancel his show at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary due to an illness, but details were not released at the time. Meat Loaf, who is 68, is well known for the “Bat Out of Hell” trilogy of albums, which sold more than 43 million copies worldwide.
