Romania’s former King Michael dead at 96

Former King Michael I of Romania, one of the last-surviving leaders from World War II, has died at the age of 96, the royal house says.

Michael died at his residence in Switzerland at 12 p.m. local time on Tuesday while surrounded by Princess Maria, according to a statement from the royal house. The royal house will make a statement to the country at 7 p.m. local time in Romania, it added.
