Rapper Nelly was arrested Saturday after a woman accused him of rape following a concert in Washington state, but no charges were immediately filed and his attorney called the claim a ‘complete fabrication.’

The incident was first reported at 3:48 a.m. PT on Saturday when a woman called 911, stating that she had been sexually assaulted by the 42-year-old rapper. She said the assault occurred on Nelly’s tour bus near a Walmart in Auburn.

“After patrol officers investigated the incident, at 4:37 a.m. Nelly was taken into custody and booked at the SCORE jail facility,” the Auburn Police Department said in a brief statement. “Auburn Police are continuing to investigate this incident.”

Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., was booked on one count of second-degree rape but he was released within hours, according to a website that tracks the movement of inmates. No formal charges were immediately filed and specific details about the allegation were not released.

Scott Rosenblum, an attorney for Nelly, said the rapper was the victim of a “completely fabricated allegation.”

“Our initial investigation clearly establishes this allegation is devoid of credibility and is motivated by greed and vindictiveness,” Rosenblum said. “I am confident, once this scurrilous accusation is thoroughly investigated, there will be no charges. Nelly is prepared to address and pursue all legal avenues to redress any damage caused by this clearly false allegation.”
