Pro-Russian rebel leader Alexander Zakharchenko killed in blast

Alexander Zakharchenko, the leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic in eastern Ukraine, has been killed in an explosion at a cafe, Russian news agencies report.

Zakharchenko, the prime minister of the unrecognized republic, was killed when an explosion occurred at the Separ cafe in central Donetsk, a source told the Russian news agency Interfax.

The cause of the blast was not immediately known. It was also not immediately clear whether there were any other casualties as a result of Friday’s explosion.
