The body of pop superstar Prince has been cremated and his loved ones have attended a private ceremony near Minneapolis to say their goodbyes, his publicist says. A musical celebration for the public is expected to take place in the near future.
“A few hours ago, Prince was celebrated by a small group of his most beloved: family, friends and his musicians, in a private, beautiful ceremony to say a loving goodbye,” publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said in a statement. “Prince’s remains have been cremated and their final storage will remain private.”
Other details about Saturday’s private ceremony were not provided, but the statement added that an announcement would be made in the near future for a musical celebration of Prince’s life. It is not yet known when and where the celebration will take place.
Prince, who was one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time, was found dead at his Minnesota home on Thursday morning, but there has been no official word on the cause of death. Noel-Schure added on Saturday that it will take at least 4 weeks before results from Friday’s autopsy are known.
