Noor Zahi Salman, the wife of Omar Mateen, had prior knowledge of her husband’s plot to carry out a massacre at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, according to reports. Charges are now being considered.
Salman has told the FBI that she was with her husband when he bought ammunition and a holster, according to NBC News, which cited unidentified officials. She also admitted to driving Mateen to the nightclub because he wanted to scope the location.
The report from NBC News did not detail the extent of her knowledge about Mateen’s plan, but she told the FBI that she had tried to talk her husband out of the attack. She is cooperating with the investigation and authorities are now considering whether to charge her, NBC said.
A total of 49 people were killed and 56 others were injured when Mateen opened fire at the Pulse nightclub. Mateen, who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS) group in a call to a 911 dispatcher, was killed in a shootout with police.
