A man has opened fire at a business in Edgewood in Maryland, killing three co-workers and seriously injuring two others, officials say. He later shot a sixth person at a business in Delaware before fleeing the scene.
The first incident happened at about 8;58 a.m. ET on Wednesday when deputies were called to a report of a shooting at Advanced Granite Solutions, which is located at the Emmorton Business Park in Edgewood, about 20 miles (31 kilometers) northeast of Baltimore.
“Deputies were on the scene within 4 minutes, arriving at 9:02 a.m., when they discovered five people suffering from gunshot wounds,” Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said. The suspect had already fled the scene when deputies arrived.
Gahler confirmed that three of the victims succumbed to their injuries and two others were taken to the University of Maryland Medical Center’s Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where both victims were reported to be in a critical condition.
The suspect has been identified as Radee Labeeb Prince, a 37-year-old man who worked at the company as a machine operator. A motive for the shooting was not immediately known, though one person at a nearby business said he had heard arguing around the time of the shooting.
The owner of the business – which designs and installs countertops – told the Associated Press that Prince had been an employee for about four months. “This does appear to be a targeted attack, limited to this business,” Gahler said, adding that there was no evidence that anyone else was involved.
Investigators believe Prince fled the scene in a 2008 black GMC Acadia with Delaware license plate PC64273. He is believed to have traveled to Delaware, where a shooting took place at a used car dealer in Wilmington at 10;45 a.m., injuring one person.
Anyone who sees Prince is urged to call 911 immediately, or to call the FBI at 800-225-5324 for other information that could help investigators.
“There’s an individual out there, on the loose, who committed one of the most heinous acts we’ve ever seen in our county. Certainty we consider him armed and dangerous,” Gahler said, adding that there was no indication of an immediate threat to the community as a whole.
