Legendary actress Mary Tyler Moore, the star of two of America’s most popular sitcoms, has passed away while being treated at a hospital in Connecticut, her representative says. She was 80 years old.

“Today, beloved icon, Mary Tyler Moore, passed away at the age of 80 in the company of friends and her loving husband of over 33 years, Dr. S. Robert Levine,” said representative Mara Buxbaum. “A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile.”

Buxbaum provided no details about Moore’s cause of death, but entertainment news website TMZ reported that the actress had been on a respirator for more than a week. It is unclear when Moore was hospitalized.

Although details about her death were not immediately available, Moore is known to have suffered from various health problems over the years. She suffered from diabetes and underwent brain surgery back in 2011.

Mary Tyler Moore, who turned 80 just a month ago, was best known for her role in the 1970s TV sitcom “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”, which focused on the life of a single, 30-something career woman. She was also known for her role on “The Dick Van Dyke Show.”
