India stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with gains in the Healthcare, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Metal driving shares higher.
At close, the Nifty 50 was up 0.4%, and the BSE Sensex 30 inched up 0.41%.
The highest performers on the Nifty 50 were:
- Cairn India Limited (CAIL): +3.19% (+4.2 points) to 135.75
- GAIL Ltd. (GAIL): +3.89% (+11.45 points) to 306.10
- ITC Ltd. (ITC): +3.19% (+10.80 points) to 349.10
The worst performers on the index included:
- Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. (REDY): -1.93% (-67.90 points) to 3441.30
- Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (BPCL): -2.49%(-22.40 points) to 876.25
- Grasim Industries Ltd. (GRAS): -1.82% (-67.15 points) to 3614.45
Over on the BSE Sensex 30, the top performers were:
- ITC Ltd. (ITC): +2.91% to 348.15
- Gail Ltd. (GAIL): +4.40% to 306.55
- Vedanta Ltd. (VDAN): +2.68% to 92.05
The worst performers included:
- Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. (REDY): -1.73% to 3440.10
- Infosys Ltd. (INFY): -1.77% to 1061.00
- AXIS Bank Ltd. (AXBK): -1.32% to 475.25
The number of rising stocks outnumber the number of declining ones on the Indian National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, the index that measures implied volatility on Nifty 50, dropped 5.06% to reach 16.9725.
