Gunman opens fire in Toronto, injuring at least 9 people

A gunman has opened fire in a busy Toronto neighborhood, injuring at least nine people before turning the gun on himself, officials and witnesses say. There was no immediate word on a possible motive.

The incident happened just after 10 p.m. ET on Sunday when police were called to reports of shots being fired in the area of Danforth and Logan avenues, which is located in the Greektown area. Shots were fired at multiple locations.

Toronto Paramedic Services confirmed that at least 9 people were taken to area hospitals, including multiple people who were rushed to trauma centers with serious injuries. A child is believed to be among the victims.

The shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Toronto Police Service. t was not immediately clear whether the shooter was among the nine people who were taken to area hospitals, or whether he was pronounced dead at the scene.

There was also no word on the identity of the suspect or what may have led to Sunday’s mass shooting. The Toronto Police Service is asking anyone who witnessed the shooting to go to a nearby police station.

“My heart goes out to the victims and loved ones of the horrific act of gun violence in Toronto,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford said on Twitter. “Thank you to all the first responders for acting quickly to help everyone affected.”
