New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who ended his bid for the Republican presidential nomination just two weeks ago, has endorsed real estate mogul Donald Trump for president.

Christie, appearing unannounced at a Trump campaign rally in Fort Worth, Texas, on Friday afternoon, said the businessman is the “clear standout” of the five remaining candidates who are running for the Republican nomination.

“I’ve been on that (debate) stage, I’ve gotten to know all the people on that stage, and there is no one who is better prepared to provide America with the strong leadership that it needs, both at home and around the world, than Donald Trump,” Christie said. “He is, looking at the five people on that stage last night, the clear standout and the person who will do exactly what needs to be done to make America a leader around the world again.”

Trump, who noted that they have had a “wonderful relationship” for many years, called Christie a “spectacular governor”.
