A vehicle has plowed into a crowd of people during protests in Charlottesville, Virginia, injuring at least seven people, witnesses say. It was not immediately clear whether the crash was intentional or the result of an accident.
The incident happened just before 2 p.m. ET on Saturday when crowds of people were marching down a street in Charlottesville. Most people at the location appeared to be counter-protesters against a white nationalist rally.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing at least seven people being treated for injuries, some of whom appeared to have suffered life-threatening injuries. There was no immediate word from authorities on the exact number of victims.
It was also not immediately clear whether the crash was intentional or the result of an accident. Video footage showed that multiple cars were driving in between protesters when one car suddenly plowed into people at a high rate of speed.
