Six people who are allegedly involved in the preparation of acts of terrorism have been arrested in a series of counter-terror raids across England, British police say. Only few details have been released.

The arrests were made on early Monday morning when police carried out raids at four locations in the city of Derby in Derbyshire, at one location in Burton-on-Trent in Staffordshire, and at a sixth location in the London area.

The North East Counter Terrorism Unit said in a statement that four men – aged 22, 27, 27, 35, and 36 – and one woman aged 32 were arrested on suspicion of engaging in the preparation of an act of terrorism. Specific details have not been disclosed.

“This is an ongoing investigation led by the North East Counter Terrorism Unit,” the agency said. “We recognize that local people may have concerns as a result of these arrests and local officers will be out in the area as usual to speak to anyone who may have concerns.”

The agency said the six properties involved in Monday’s operation were being searched as part of the investigation. “We would ask people to remain alert and vigilant but not to be alarmed and we are grateful for the assistance, support and understanding of people locally,” the statement added.

Other details have not been released.
