Classified advertising website Backpage has been seized by U.S. law enforcement, according to a message posted on the website, which was often used to enable prostitution.

The notice said Backpage and affiliated websites were seized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other agencies as part of a “law enforcement action.” It provided no other information, noting that details would be released at 6 p.m. ET.

The move comes just weeks after the U.S. Congress passed a controversial law which made it easier to target websites which are accused of enabling sex trafficking. Backpage had long been a target of law enforcement.
