2 police officers shot in northeast Washington, D.C.

Two police officers have been rushed to hospital after a shooting in northeast Washington, D.C., local officials say. One suspect was killed but details about the exact circumstances of the shooting are still unknown.

The incident happened just after 10:30 p.m. ET when officers were reported to be down in the area of 1400 Morse Street near the intersection with Holbrook Street. It was not immediately known what led up to the shooting.

The Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that two police officers were shot and rushed to an area hospital, but both were said to be conscious and breathing. Police Chief Peter Newsham described their injuries as non-life-threatening.

One suspect was killed in the shooting, the chief said, but details about his identity were not immediately available.
