Uber is testing a new feature to make life easier for families and friends to share an Uber account. That means a single family could share a credit card for Uber on every device, making it simpler for parents to pay for their kids and family members.

The feature is now only in a pilot test phase for Uber users in Atlanta, Dallas and Phoenix, and ten users can share the same account and payment method. If you’re in one of the cities where it’s being tested, you can try it by using the following steps to create a new Family Profile in the app:-

Step 1: download the latest version of the Uber app

Step 2: From Menu, choose Settings

Step 3: Scroll down to “Add a Family Profile” and select the contacts to add

When the Family Profile user accepts the invite, they can then request rides from their own phone using the Family Profile as the payment method.

The trip’s cost will be billed to the Family Profile and the organiser will receive a receipt for each ride.

One a Family Profile has been created and you have invited some people, all they need to do is accept the email invitation to be added to the account. The feature was obviously developed with families in mind, but Uber says it could be useful for co-workers and other projects where one card holder pays for the rides of other people.

Once you join a Family Profile, you can also switch between that and your personal one at any time before you request a car.
