Actress Carrie Fisher, who is best known for her role as Princess Leia on “Star Wars”, has died, her spokesman says, just days after she suffered a massive heart attack on an LA-bound flight. She was 60 years old.
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly,” spokesman Simon Halls said in a brief statement.
Fisher was being treated at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles after she suffered a massive heart attack on Friday while flying from London to Los Angeles. CPR was performed for at least 10 to 15 minutes before a pulse was detected but she had remained on a ventilator over the past few days.
Fisher was well known for her role as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy, as well as the 2015 movie “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. Additionally, she was also a successful writer and published a number of books, including the 1987 book “Postcards from the Edge.”
