Paris Gare du Nord station – which is Europe’s busiest railway station – was evacuated late Monday over a possible sighting of three wanted men who are thought to be extremely dangerous, officials and witnesses say.
The operation began at around 11:10 p.m. local time on Monday when a railway employee notified police about the possible presence of three men who are the subject of a nationwide manhunt. The men, said to be extremely dangerous, are reported to be wanted in connection with terrorism.
A large number of police forces, including the Research and Intervention Brigade (BRI), were deployed at Paris Nord station in the French capital. Witnesses said heavily-armed officers entered the station and ordered people to evacuate while other officers took positions around the complex.
The operation appeared to focus on a single train at the station. Police officers searched the train and checked the identities of the passengers, witnesses said. The operation ended at approximately 1:45 a.m. and no arrests were made.
Earlier sightings in Paris, Bordeaux and Marseille also turned up nothing.
